Scary story

The story begins in a small rural town in Montana called Galesburg a town that used to be booming coal-mining town, but since the explosions in the mines forty years ago the town has been pretty depressed with only a population of 400 or so.  The town consists of a gas station, a sporting goods store, a few fast food joints and restaurants, houses of course, and a hand full of abounded buildings, and a mechanic. With that aside there’s one high school in town where a group of five friends go there names are Jim, Dan, Chris, Mitch, and Bill they all live in town and hang out every weekend pretty much. A common place they all hang out at is Mitch’s house mostly because his parents are always out of town and Mitch has a pretty sick set up to throw some awesome house parties. So one weekend when Mitch’s parents decided to go to Las Vegas the group was planning a pretty big party to throw on Friday night. So after school on Friday the group assembled at Mitch’s house and made the preparations for the party. The house was set back far in the mountains due to its long 7-mile driveway so it made it pretty secluded to not have to worry about cops or neighbors. That night they had the best party of their lives and when they woke up every one left but Mitch, Chris, and Bill. After the long clean up that that took them till mid afternoon the boys decided to go investigate the surrounding mountain wilderness. After about an hour of trekking threw the deep woods they cam across what looked to be an old blown out mine shaft from nearly 5 decades ago. After some discussion between the 3 guys they decided to return to Mitch’s to get supplies to go down into the shaft to investigate what they might find, each guy took a backpack full of stuff that could be useful to them. Once they got back to the shaft they started to descend slowly after about an hour walk down in the shaft they came across what look to a pile of bones as they got closer they realized that it was bones, but they looked to be an assortment of different animal bones but it still made them all fell a little scared. As they progressed down into the mineshaft they kept felling like they saw something flash in front of them but when they flashed a light in that direction there appeared to be nothing there. After about another three hours of wandering around the boys decided that they were for sure lost and had no idea how to get of the shaft. At this point they figured the time was about midnight and this is when the creatures started to come out of the cracks and crevices. These monsters looked like half pig and half mole. As soon as the boys saw these creatures they knew they were in trouble because by the looks of their sharp jagged teeth they knew they were meat eaters. Chris and Mitch were the first one to scatter by running up another side shaft, but bill wasn’t so lucky because one of the creatures got hold of him and devoured him in mere seconds. As Chris and Mitch were running up the side shaft they started to see light peak around the corner but when Chris turned to see where Mitch was all he could see is his torn body being drug back into the darkness of the mineshaft. As Chris emerged from the mineshaft he made a b-line right to the police where he reported what happened and then the police station went right to the national government. The national government took action by completely exploding the whole mountainside destroying everything in range of it. As soon as the government took this action the creatures were never heard of again and were completely demolished. After this ordeal Chris decided to move as far away as possible from the area.

Project 3 ideas

I have a couple ideas for the third project my first idea was a discourse community of people interested in football. I picked this because I have been playing football since I was 8 so I would consider myself of that discourse community.  My second idea was to write about the Tea Party in our government because its not one of the two major governmental parties.

Quotes

“People can be wrong about smaller points while still being right about bigger ones”

“Language is a misleading term, it too often suggests ‘grammar’. It is a truism that a person can know perfectly the grammar of a language and not know how to use that language”

“metaknowladge  is liberation and power, because it leads to the ability to manipulate, to analyze, to resist while advancing”

“Discourses, primary and secondary can be studied, in some ways. Like languages”

“Beyond changing the social structure, Is there much hope? No, there is not.”

Importance of quote

I found this quote important because Gee is trying to say that you can be right about a big point, but you can also be wrong because you as a reader didn’t look at all the fine details leading up to the big points.

I found this quote to be important because Gee is saying that just because you know the grammar of a language it doesn’t mean you know how to use that language effectively.

I found this quote to be important because its saying knowledge about what your doing can help you greatly to help advance over other people who don’t have the knowledge.

I found this quote interesting because Gee is comparing a discourse community to a language and I guess that could be right because in both cases there are certain rules and guide lines you have to follow.

I found this quote interesting because Gee is answering his own question, I just found it funny how he did that and why he choose to word it the way he did.

anne wysocki questionable ad

I choose this questionable ad because its almost objectifying woman in the sense that there saying “you know your not the first” meaning as a male your not the first to have her. BMW is trying to parallel this with you wont be the first with a BMW but you’ll still be able to have one. I found this uncomfortable because the model s in a seductive pose and looking right at the viewer, and with the caption its obviously trying to provoke some sort of sexual theme.

Synthesize
I feel like we read this article to distinguish between form and content in our writing. Meaning that we cant judge an ad or paper just on the content in that certain ad or paper but also on how the information is presented because if you use both to pick a paper or ad apart you can gain valuable information and be able to interpret what the writer is trying to say better.
