Overall
after reading through and reviewing the research paper that was by Joe Miller
on discourse communities I thought overall he did pretty well, but I also found
some things that could be improved. The point I liked about the paper was when
interviewing people he didn’t use their real names and he gave out a list of
what questions he actually asked. Yet another point about the paper that I
liked was that I liked how he broke the paper down into different section, it
made the paper easier to read I felt like. Another thing I liked about the
paper was that he compared Swales idea of a discourse community to other
peoples idea of a discourse community. Now some of the things that could’ve
been changed while reading the paper at times I thought he kind of jumped
around from topic to topic at points which made it kind of hard to read.
Another thing that could’ve been changed was that he didn’t state how more
research could’ve been done he just kind of said what he did. Another thing I found throughout the paper was
that a lot of the paragraphs were super short, which made it choppy throughout.
Overall I thought the paper had good information throughout but it was also
missing some information that could easily be added or fixed.
