James Porter

Summary

In James Porters article ‘Interextuality and the Discourse Community ‘ Porter attempts to argue that common ideas about originality and plagiarism don’t account for how texts actually work and how writers actually write. Porter argues that writer cant be super original when constructing factual texts.

Synthesize
Overall Porters article was an original of its kind because it’s the very first one that talks about plagiarism and how to work wit it. But I noticed that Porter kind of uses the same type of set up in his article that Kline uses in his article that’s about the only connection I could find between all the articles.

QDJ

4. In the pass I believed that writing should be evaluated by not only the content but how well you but the content together. Porter’s idea of acceptability all starts with picking the perfect topic and then to look for how valid the information is in the paper and how acceptable the content is to the audience.

5. I think Porter fails to get his point across because he says that all writing works are hard to make original and even that many of them aren’t. So if he says most works aren’t original then he’s contradicting himself in his article because that means his work as well is not original.

AEI

2. The new definition of plagiarism is that you can use other people works just as long as you cite them the proper way and you be sure to give the original author credit for something they already did. And in the end it wouldn’t change that much because they pretty much have the same ideas.

Meta Moment

They way Porter presents it doesn’t really change how I viewed writers because they are still framing their work and how they present it even if it is someone else’s work. And accepting his views might make writing easier for me but I would try to incorporate some of his techniques in my writing process.

My thoughts

Overall I thought Porters article was very informative of how the plagiarism process works. I found it especially helpful because I am using plagiarism on my first major project that’s coming up very soon. Overall Porters article was a good information filled article that I think may help
