Summary
In Kantz’s
article ‘Helping students use textual sources persuasively’, Kantz attempts to
teach teachers and students to use research as best they can and how to use
what information they already have in the proper ways. She argues that if you
actually read the research for what it is you can get so much more out of it
because she says facts are more claims then they are facts it just depends how
you perceive them.
Synthesize
The article
by Kantz is similar to the article by Kleine in that they both propose
different ways to analyze and get good information from your research. The two
articles are different by the way the authors tell you to go about getting and
using the information you come up with in your research.
QDJ
#1. Kantz says that facts and opinions are pretty much the
same thing and that is they are claims and it all depends on how the reader
interprets what they really are. Kantz also says that arguments are facts and
opinions put together that can be challenged by the audience with yet another
argument.
#2. Kantz says that in textbooks there are no facts just
claims and its up to the reader on how they want to interpret those claims. For
the most part I believe that she is right, but at the same time most of my
textbooks have been factually correct so I think she could be wrong on some
things. After reading this section I feel like I have a better grip on what
Kantz is trying to present.
AEI
#2. How I take creativity and research is that you have to
be creative about how you research. Don’t always just use the first site you
come across and to look at the research from both sides so like the pros and
cons of the research. Our ideas overlap in the sense that you have to look at
it from both sides. Take a viewpoint of the information from the “for” side and
then look at the “against” side. Overall Kantz had some good pointers on how to
analyze your research which I think will be helpful in future writing projects.
Meta Moment
The
constructs or conceptions Kantz is trying to analyze are good research
techniques and how to look at both sides of the argument and pick out good
information. It would be useful to understand Kantz claims because they could
be a useful tool in helping write better papers, and come up with better
arguments within the paper your writing.
My thoughts
Overall I thought Kantz article was
very informative and could be a useful tool to use when writing a paper. I
thought the way she presented how you have look at both sides of the argument
to get a grip on the information was good. I plan to use some of these
techniques when I’m trying to formulate my papers. Overall as I said this was a
very helpful and well organized article.
